Our Commitment

Health equity data vital to better understanding health disparities

The Central Indiana Alliance for Health Equity is a collaborative that includes Community Health Network, Eskenazi Health, Franciscan Health and Indiana University Health and works in partnership with the Indianapolis Recorder and Greater Indianapolis Branch of the NAACP. We seek to eliminate the systemic racism that disproportionately affects Black and Brown communities, and we stand firmly united against racism, injustice and inaction.

The collaborative’s long-term goal is to improve access to high-quality and equitable health care for all in central Indiana. We worked closely with the Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE) and its data analysts to collect and report health equity data from the four health systems that serve the Marion County community. The data is publicly available at www.CentralIndianaAllianceforHealthEquity.com and will be updated every six months. The data is focused on these areas:

  • Blood pressure
  • Depression
  • Diabetes
  • Mom/baby

As the dashboards were developed, we learned that health disparity data is collected in various ways across our health systems. The information collected provides transparency and a better understanding of health disparities that exist in our community.

Our health care systems are committed to providing high quality, compassionate care. We are committed to being part of the solution, both within our organizations and in partnership with local community groups. We remain focused on improving access to care and eliminating racial biases that contribute to poor health outcomes.

As part of this effort, we feel strongly in the value of continued conversation about the public health crisis that is racism. We believe all people are worthy of our compassionate care, that everyone can be an important contributor to our teams and that true inclusiveness is essential if we are to make Indiana one of the healthiest states. We will continue to hold town hall meetings and public discussions on the issues of racism and health disparities.

We know the power of community and have seen the positive effects when working together towards the greater good. We stand committed to working alongside our community partners and helping break down the barriers that stand in the way of Central Indiana residents living their healthiest lives.

Endorsement from the NAACP and Indianapolis Recorder Newspaper

The Greater Indianapolis Branch of the NAACP and Indianapolis Recorder Newspaper are committed to maintaining quality partnerships with health care institutions in Indianapolis.

As two highly respected entities that represent the African-American community, it is essential that we work with the health industry to amplify racial justice efforts and eradicate healthcare disparities and other social determinants that negatively impact Black and Brown communities. We applaud the leaders of Community Health Network, Eskenazi Health, Franciscan Health, and IU Health for their bold leadership.

Through the partnership, we will support the stewardship of resources through a transparent and community-facing lens to bring about change and ensure health equity for all to help reduce racial injustice and eliminate healthcare disparities focusing on infant mortality, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes, and develop pipeline programs that address the entire social determinants spectrum that has negatively impacted black and brown communities.

We look forward to continued collaboration.
